One of the main reasons for my migration was the failure of Fedora's Network Manager in connecting to the eduroam. Unfortunately, I still haven't managed to connect to the network. The network applet simply reports that "Authentication Failed" even though I correctly enter my account information (I know this because, I know it's not a nice thing to say but, I can connect perfectly well from within Windows XP using the same credentials). Also, I don't think that it is an adapter related issue since I can connect to the access point I've setup at home easily. You can find the procedures to connect to the eduroam from my university at http://luchthaven.tudelft.nl/engels/peap.htm (using PEAP for Windows) and at http://luchthaven.tudelft.nl/engels/ttls.htm (using TTLS for Ubuntu). While searching for clues on how to connect, I found some articles assisting to connect via wpa_supplicant. It appears this is a problem with your BIOS settings or hardware. Definitely a hardware issue, nothing specific to Pardus (I do not remember any reports about IRQs that did not end up being a hardware-related issue.) You might try updating your BIOS. If that doesn't work, as IRQs are for hardware, you might need to see which one is causing the problem by removing them one at a time. Dear Fatih and Caglar, After applying your recipes, the display is functioning smooth and perfect, my gratitude to you both. Let me report the situation I was experiencing before hand so that, a similar troubled user can find this thread while googling: ====================================================================== Problem resolved, previous symptoms: I have an ATI display adapter (Mobility Radeon HD 2600) but having problems with 3D applications and also dual head. When plugging an external display to my laptop which also supports 1680x1050 resolution, the monitor insists on displaying only the 1280x800 region and leaving out the rest (it appears like a magnified version of the upper-left region). ====================================================================== With my best regards & gratitude, Emre Sururi From etasci at fisek.com.tr Mon Apr 21 10:51:25 2008 From: etasci at fisek.com.tr (Emre Sururi) Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2008 09:51:25 +0200 Subject: [Pardus-users] no php executable in /usr/local/bin Message-ID: <480C477D.9020306@fisek.com.tr> Dear All, I've installed Apache/PHP/MySQL using the pisi and the trio works perfectly well using a browser but can't seem to run php scripts from the shell... Today, I finally managed to connect to the eduroam thanks to you. But the method I've followed brought its own questions.. 8) First here is how I managed to connect: As the root I ran: dutsm0175 ~ # wpa_supplicant -w -B -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -D wext dutsm0175 ~ # dhcpcd wlan0 and voila, once again I'm riding on the virtual sea! But on the Network Applet, I'm still counted as offline, so I guess what I did was just equivalent of tackling the net app. from behind while it's looking away... This is completely OK with me but I would prefer a much more practical way of connecting to eduroam if possible... (To summarize my prior failing: I choose PEAP/MSCHAPV2 as the Auth. Mode, then enter my user name & password but it always return with "Authentication Failed"...) So, due to my lack of technical merits: 1. Are the two things, the network applet and the wpa_supplicant completely independent beasts? 2. If not so, how can I configure the network applet to achieve success just as wpa_supplicant does? 3. If such a thing is not possible, is there a much practical way to connect via the wpa_supplicant other than including the two commands in a script? For example it would be good for the system to automatically connect to eduroam when it is present.. When you start wpa_supplicant service with "service wpa_supplicant start" it reads this file and appends parameter. def start(): startService(command="/usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant", args="-WuB -P%s %s" % (pidfile, config.get("OPTS", "")), So, you can edit this file to be able to run wpa_supplicant with your specific config file at startup and you don't need to bother with command you said previously :) Change the line with; OPTS="-i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf" And enter these commands; service wpa_supplicant stop service wpa_supplicant start dhcpcd wlan0 And voila! You will be able to connect. Just make wpa_supplicant service default by typing "service wpa_supplicant on" and when you boot your box again, you will just type "dhcpcd wlan0". Pretty useful, I think. You can try network-manager again but I'm not sure it will work becasue as far as I remember, network-manager sends unique data to wpa_supplicant via DBus according to your profile. Pardon me for failing to understand but, am I to delete the relevant eduroam entry from the "/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf"? If the answer is "No, just leave it as it is" (ie, having the current entry as I quoted before), then sadly it is not working still with the "/etc/conf.d/wpa_supplicant" file modified as you suggested.. 8( Cheers, ES From etasci at fisek.com.tr Fri Apr 25 18:18:20 2008 From: etasci at fisek.com.tr (Emre Sururi) Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2008 17:18:20 +0200 Subject: [Pardus-users] gnome support.. tomboy Message-ID: <4811F63C.3090202@fisek.com.tr> I know it's a little bit asking too much but, is it possible to install one of my favourite applications, the Tomboy (http://www.gnome.org/projects/tomboy/) in Pardus? Tried basket and knotes as well.. They are pretty nice (especially the basket note pads) alas -sounds snobbish but- once you get used to Tomboy, it's pretty hard to cope with the alternates (I also heard another application called Zim but could not install it neither).. In Linux, software mostly stores configuration files and application data in the hidden files in your home directory. Basket knows the standard place Tomboy stores its configuration, detects and imports them.
