Ulusal işletim sistemi Pardus'un son kararlı sürümü Pardus 2007, 2006 yılı sonunda yayımlanmıştı. Aradan geçen zamanda kimi yenilikler güncelleme ara sürümleri (Pardus 2007.1, .2 ve .3) aracılığı ile Pardus kullanıcılarına sunulurken, kimi yenilikler de ürünün kararlılığını sağlamak adına dışarıda bırakıldı. Geçtiğimiz üç yıl boyunca açık kaynak dünyasında ağırlığı artan ve 90 ülkeden 2000 kadar programcının gözetiminde 1500 stajyerin yarattığı ürünleri yazılım dünyasına bağışlayan Google Summer of Code 2008 yılı programında Pardus projelerini de sunuyor.
